KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes responsibility for the delivery of care for each resident, ensuring that all personal and nursing care is provided in accordance with the mission of The Salvation Army, agency, regulatory and established ethical guidelines and requirements.
2. Monitors the treatment regime and health status including physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological needs to ensure the safety and well-being of the resident.
3. Applies critical thinking skills to assess the resident's clinical status.
4. Demonstrates medication knowledge for the purpose of assessment and administration as per physician orders and Medication Standards according to the BCCNM.
5. Performs nursing care to residents including administering prescribed medication and treatments, and observing, recording and reporting symptoms and changes in resident condition; offers compassionate care by understanding the goals and values of residents.
5. Communicates clearly and respectfully with all members of the hospice team, with residents and their family members and can effectively and patiently collaborate toward arriving at the best practice and best care of residents.
6. Carries out established procedures to offer care for residents, is aware of the upkeep of the facility's equipment (such as fridge temperatures, battery operated devices, emergency equipment, OHL and oxygen concentrators) and uses supplies according to plan of care.
7. Provides caring environment to residents and families including facilitating participation of resident and family in care plans.
8. Maintains pertinent records and ensures all documentation is accurate and complete. Maintains strict confidentiality of information with regard to residents and families. Documents in electronic health record and in the E-MAR all medication reconciliations.
9. Participates in professional development opportunities such as in-services to maintain current knowledge and practice.
10. Maintains relationships with all external health agencies, professionals and the community.
11. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONCurrent license as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BCCNM; the BCCNM will have performed a criminal record check on the applicant. Education in the field of palliation and/or an interest in gaining knowledge in the field of study. Education in other fields of nursing study supportive of candidacy for palliative care.

Shift Schedule:
Tues - Friday 8hr days/Tues-Friday 8hr days/1 8hr night (Rotating Week 1 and 2)
PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of typing, walking and the physical ability to offer direct nursing care. The applicant has the ability to work in rotating shifts.
CONCENTRATION and SKILLS REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires attention to reading and understanding written reports (in charts and in Point Click Care); it requires assessment abilities and the ability to quickly estimate and correctly complete medications equations; it requires the ability to use computers; it requires and understanding of measures both environmental and chemical for the individualized treatment of discomforts; and it requires the ability to support and work with all team members, including attentive listening and effective and respectful communication.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $30.65 to $32.79 with a maximum of $34.92.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
