Licensed Practical Nurse - Pediatrics Community

Available Monday to Fridays and Every Other Weekend

Overnight availability, hours can range from (2200-0900)

Every day will be different! You may be required to perform a variety of clinical skills such as wound care, IV therapy, palliative care, tube feeding and medication administration, as well as health teaching.

What you will need to be successful
  • You are registered as a member in good standing with the CLPNA
  • You are able to provide proof current CPR and First Aid certification and a police check with a clear vulnerable sector screening
  • Your person and family centred approach to care guides your decision making
  • You recognize and respect the role of each member of the interdisciplinary team and demonstrate excellent communication skills to facilitate collaborative care
  • You have an appreciation for diversity and actively seek to be inclusive in your practice
  • You understand the critical role of home health care in supporting the larger health system, and demonstrate confidence in navigating clients and families to other resources to help them meet their goals
  • You embrace the use of technology to support your practice
  • You can work a minimum of alternating weekends or commit to working every weekend
  • You can participate in an on-call or after-hours rotation
  • You have access to a reliable and insured vehicle, a valid driving license and are able and willing to travel to a variety of settings within the city of Edmonton
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills required; the ability to communicate in French or other languages is considered an asset
PRIMARY DUTIES

As a Pediatric Licensed Practical Nurse, your responsibilities may include:

- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- G-tube management
- Medication Administration
- Oxygen & Humidity Therapy
- Providing personal care to children proactively and with compassion

QUALIFICATIONS

To take on the role of Pediatric Licensed Practical Nurse, you must have:
- Current registration in good standing with the CLPNA
- Current CPR-Provider certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 12 months and Intervention Record Check.
- Completion of 3 day Care of Children with Complex Needs course (provided by employer)
- Evidence of a negative TB test within the last 12 months and an up-to-date Immunization Record.
- Availability to work days, evening and overnight awake visits including every other weekend
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proven interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Previous child care experience is an asset
