Your Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Outpatient Surgery Manager, the LPN is responsible for assessing the needs of Pre-operative patients, for education and optimization of patients. Pre-operative assessments of the patient\'s medical history and teaching are conducted by telephone interview and/or in a fast-paced clinic environment. The LPN provides support to Physician consultants and demonstrates professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public. The LPN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for patients within all elements of the current job description for LPNs. The LPN is responsible and accountable for practice in accordance to the standards defined by the CLPNA. Direct nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for assigned patients and works in consultation with LPN colleagues and other services to meet the needs of more complex patients.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous Pre-Admission Clinic experience. 5 years recent experience on a surgical or day surgery unit required. Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessment skills. Demonstrated strong critical thinking abilities. Ability to manage in a multi-faceted clinic through efficient time-management and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required (both written and verbal). Ability to work well as part of multi-service team. Effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal, and written means, in a professional and mature manner required. Proficiency in computer skills required. Expertise using the Windows environment and communication using AHS email required. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and independence of nursing practice in a multidisciplinary team environment. Ability to sit and/or stand while working for extended periods of time. Proficient typing skills.
