Proof of vaccination status will be required.SummaryReporting to the Manager, LTC Clinical Excellence and Program Education, the Licensed Practical Nurse Educator (LPNE) practices within the context of a client and family-centred care model, and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards/scope of practice and Code of Ethics. The LPNE provides education services including individual or group educational activities to LPNs and/or other non-regulated staff (i.e., Health Care Support Workers and Resident Care Aides), measures education program success and amends plans accordingly.
The position works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team utilizing evidence-informed practice and education theory to provide progressive educational programs that will achieve the most effective outcomes in the context of workplace learning.
The position works with stakeholders also works with colleagues and other interested parties to ensure overall understanding of regional initiatives, communicates progress, and to facilitate site-specific programs in meeting standards and overall goals. Participates in research, policy, quality improvement and risk management activities. The LPNE supports the work at multiple sites across PHC and supports orientation and onboarding of new Resident Care Aides (RCA) across the LTC program.Qualifications / Skills and EducationEducation, Training, and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including one (1) year related teaching and/or leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid BC Driver\'s License and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.Skills and Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of chronic disease management and approaches to self-care.
  • Broad knowledge of harm reduction, Trauma Informed approached, and Indigenous Cultural Safety to client care.
  • Demonstrated ability in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) technique.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities1.Determines education priorities that meet learner needs, in collaboration with the Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Manager, Clinical Excellence and Program Education by completing learning needs assessments of individuals or groups to assist in the determination of the educational requirements and their objectives.
2.Facilitates and implements educational programs for Long-term Care Initiatives such as Health Care Access Program (HCAP) staff based on clinical evidence, policy (e.g., clinical decision support tools), literature and resources and education theory. Creates a supportive and interdisciplinary learning environment by utilizing education theory (e.g., Adult Learning Theory) to build strong professional relationships with learners to facilitate open communication.
3.Delivers learning-centered education to individual or groups of LPNs, RCAs and/or other designated staff by conducting formal/informal presentations and demonstrations, mentoring, coaching, facilitating groups, simulation, presenting education technology with self-directed learning methods and providing point-of-care education.
4.Schedules educational activities and maintains a system for tracking staff attendance. Maintains statistics for reporting purposes. Contributes to the evaluation of education program effectiveness by measuring the intended and unintended outcomes, determining whether the clinical objectives have been achieved and assessing whether learning has occurred that results in the demonstration of evidence-informed practices.
5.Delivers program-specific education to RCAs and LPNs and/or other designated staff including orientation, support programs and continuing education sessions. Supports meaningful partnerships with the educational sector to foster learning.
6.Assists the Manager or designated by assessing the clinical skills and performance of LPN\xe2\x80\x99s and/or other designated staff by providing coaching, identifying learning needs and/or gaps and implements learning plans for LPN\xe2\x80\x99s and/or other designated staff to achieve clinical performance goals.
7.Coordinates and provides direction on practice for LPNs and non-regulated staff as it relates to LTC Initiatives including Medication Management.
8.Participates in research and special projects to promote staff awareness and involvement in research activities. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and participates on a variety of designated professional or operational committees at the program or regional level.
9.Contributes to the review, development, implementation and evaluation of education programs and evidence-informed clinical decision support tools/policies.
10.Collaborates with the Manager to create an individual plan for continuous growth and development. Sets measurable goals and objectives and reviews progress to ensure goals are achieved within established time frames.
11.Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying the Supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
12.Performs other related duties, as assigned.
