Your Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe, effective, and ethical nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. Following the principles of Family Centered Care is critical for the pediatric inpatient and day patient unit where patients aged 0 - 18 years of age recover and rehabilitate from brain Injury, spinal cord Injury, and post-operative complex orthopedic procedures. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining and improving quality care and safety for patients, families and caregivers. The Licensed Practical Nurse in this role is a member of the interdisciplinary team who facilitates collaborative planning with the patient and family, is reliable and maintains a high degree of professionalism.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in child development required. Working knowledge of contributing factors and concerns/priorities of children with chronic conditions and developmental disabilities. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills when working with complex families and patients. Demonstrate ability to work in family centered care environment is required. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed, highly motivated LPN who possesses strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Must have a demonstrated commitment to continuing education. Strong health assessment skills combined with a minimum of 3 years recent pediatric nursing is required. Lifting, positioning, transferring, and handling of patients of varying abilities using It's Your Move principles and equipment is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in providing patient education and promotion of self-management strategies.
