This position contributes to the care of patients in the medicine program which consists of 14, 18+ bed units and includes many specialized services. The program utilizes a collaborative care model (COACT) including team nursing for patient care and Connect Care for the patient's electronic medical record. The program has a team of CNEs and CNS to support new hire orientation, training in specialized areas and ongoing professional development and initiatives. We strive to utilize evidence-based practice and quality improvement principles to improve patient and family experiences and outcomes.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy unit. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients up to 50 lbs. You will also be required to bend, lift, push and pull equipment. Criminal records check with vulnerable sector search within the last 90 days is required for all external applicants.

Preferred Qualifications:

Compassionate, detail-oriented with experience and strong interest in Hematology/Oncology. OPREP & Chemo completed Charge Nurse role. Key competencies essential: Strong interpersonal, organizational & assessment skills, proven ability to work independently & collaboratively, adaptability to changing workloads & clinical conditions in a dynamic healthcare environment. Critical thinking, accountability & time management skills, self-directed with initiative to respond to evolving care needs.
