As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. This position contributes to the care of patients in the medicine program which consists of 14, 18+ bed units and includes many specialized services. The program utilizes a collaborative care model (COACT) including team nursing for patient care and Connect Care for the patient's electronic medical record. The program has a team of CNEs and CNS to support new hire orientation, training in specialized areas and ongoing professional development and initiatives. We strive to utilize evidence-based practice and quality improvement principles to improve patient and family experiences and outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced unit. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs and have the endurance to. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Criminal records check with vulnerable sector check for external applicants within the last 90 days. Proficient written and verbal communication skills required. Strong critical thinking skills and experience with team nursing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care training and experience preferred. Preference given to those who have completed their suite of Indigenous Awareness learning and other required education, experience working with CoACT elements of care. Experience working with patients with dementia, delirium, Alzheimer's disease, and behavioral challenges is considered an asset.
