Your Opportunity:The Clinical Trial Unit is a specialty area at the UAH where clinical researchers design, conduct, analyse and publish clinical trials and other health studies. The Clinical Trials Unit is recruiting a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide support for clinical trials and research. You will be assigned to the Stroke Research Group at the University of Alberta. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) you shall harness professionalism and strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage and communicate with participants on the studies. It is vital that you demonstrate the insight of when to escalate/report participant clinical concerns to nursing staff and/or Investigator. Working under limited supervision, you will perform tasks requiring independent judgement and confidentiality. The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills to solve problems, organizational skills, utilize initiative and the ability to work in a team environment. You must be able to handle multiple demands with short timelines while remaining sufficiently flexible to accept new workloads as necessary. The main responsibility of this position includes identifying eligible participants, obtaining informed consent, participant study visits, dispensing study medications, collecting and entering data into databases. A main component of this role is to ensure studies are run according to the protocol and Health Canada regulations.Description:As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 years clinical trials research experience. Highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic with proven problem-solving abilities. Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Ability to be flexible, multitask and work well under pressure. Effectively coordinate simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines. Work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, GCP and ICH guidelines, SOPs and Policies. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective communication skills. Precise documentation skills. Current or previous experience working with acute stroke patients and/or working within the emergency department. Knowledge of MS Word & Excel, Gmail, Data Entry programs. Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with pharmaceutical sponsors and contract research organizations. Experience/training in phlebotomy. Experience with Netcare & Connect Care. Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) Certification.
