Neurosciences units at University of Alberta Hospital is one of a kind within Alberta Health Services that provides specialized care that includes the management of acute strokes, brain injuries, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries and other neurological issues. The acute neuroscience/neurosurgery LPN works to full scope of practice providing nursing care for patients and families. This is done within a team-forward environment that prides itself in the multidisciplinary collaboration amongst NP\'s, RN\'s, HCA\'s, MD\'s, OT, PT, and SW, dietician and pharmacist. As such, a strong commitment to teamwork is reflected in our daily practice which relies on excellent inter-professional communication. Neurosciences ward units provide advancement opportunities including care required during insertion and/or management of drains, acute management of patients experiencing a stroke, spinal cord injuries and/or other acute neurological issues. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50 lbs. Basic computer skills required. Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, demonstrated by the ability to direct other healthcare workers, problem solve and escalate clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Strong communication and organizational skills and must be committed to patient and family centered care. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families and team members. Successful applicants will undergo Neuroscience Orientation Classes. Upon completion of classes the candidate is required to achieve a minimum pass rate of 80% on the Neurosciences Exam in order to successfully enter the Program. Preferred Qualifications:

1 to 2 years of Neuroscience experience preferred. Connect care related experience preferred.
