Your Opportunity:

The successful incumbent will be working on a 11-bed secure dementia unit with the frail elderly population. As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) you will need to support this fragile population with multiple comorbidities and behaviors. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team utilizing the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. You will play a key role in supporting the patients and families living with dementia. The LPN will practice to full scope while supporting the Charge RN and utilize the principles of dementia care in all aspects of care. This position requires someone who is patient and skilled at de-escalating challenging behaviors.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

2-5 years experience working with Dementia patients, med/surg experience, willingness to develop skills when working with challenging behaviours. Preferred Qualifications:

IV certification. NVCI, Dementia Capable Certification, Supportive Pathways or other dementia care or specialized behavioral courses would be an asset. FIM, CIHI education. Connect Care experience, previous experience in a rehab setting.
