Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model and is the only NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center in Canada. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. The LPN demonstrates competency in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for the level 2 NICU patients in a tertiary level unit. The successful LPN candidate assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team members following hospital policies and nursing care standards. The LPN is able to function at full scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta and may be required to complete a self-assessment/math exam.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic computer skills are required. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and a strong Family Centered Care philosophy are required. Demonstrated ability, to use critical thinking skills including clinical judgment and problem solving skills. Demonstrated effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal). Demonstrated high functioning time-management and organizational skills required. Note this position may be eligible for an educational opportunity: 3 week classes beginning August 28th, 2023. The incumbent will be trained to have a thorough understanding of the care of the level 2 neonatal patients. Preferred Qualifications:

Current NICU experience preferred. Recent/current experience as a LPN in an acute care or pediatric setting is preferred. Experience working to the full scope of LPN practice- including medication administration (including IV), advanced physical assessment competency preferred.
