Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will report to the Relief Team Program Manager of the Stollery Children's Hospital Casual Pool and shall work to the full scope of the LPN according to CLPNA and the policies of the Stollery Children's Hospital. The LPN will be orientated to and expected to work on all Stollery inpatient units. The LPN is part of the multidisciplinary team caring for pediatric patients and their family within a Family Centered Care philosophy. He/she must be able to apply this philosophy in practice. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Acute Care experience in Pediatrics will be valuable to be successful in this challenging position. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Successfully pass the Stollery Pre-hire Interview Medication Calculation Exam. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration Exam with 90% or greater - completed during orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) course - completed during orientation. Must possess strong interpersonal and problem solving skills with the capability of working in fast paced environments with patients of varying mobility and acuity. Excellent organizational and assessment skills with the ability to work independently and communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Preferred Qualifications:

Acute care Pediatric experience. Current Acute care experience in an adult care environment would be preferred if there is no pediatric experience. Flexibility to move between the various units and work with a wide variety of patients and families would be an asset. A demonstrated passion for working with children e.g. coaching, teaching/ tutoring children, child caregiver, employment at a children's camp would be considered an asset.
