Your Opportunity:
A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive patient and family care in an acute surgical unit in accordance with Royal Alexandra Hospital and Alberta Health Services policy and procedures. Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a unique inner city population, and we want to do it well. The Surgery Inpatient program expects all employees to do so with pride, compassion, and respect. Progressive Care Unit 34 is a 30-bed unit providing care to orthopedic and ortho spine surgery patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, and intensive care units directly from home and medical clinics. We have collaborative nursing care on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and health care aides working cohesively within the collaborative model of care. Licensed practical nurses work independently and under the direction of a Charge Registered Nurse. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line, supporting and maintaining high-quality patient care strategies within the surgery program. Licensed practical nurses are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids. Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to support/ assist patients of varying mobility status.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills.
Medication calculation exam prior to interview.
This job is physically demanding. The incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and to mobilize patients, as well as other physical tasks. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with monitoring of Central Lines.
IV, Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA), Epidural, Drains and Wound Care experience.
Two years of previous orthopedic and surgical experience.
