Your Opportunity:
This position is responsible for providing high quality nursing care at the Colon Cancer Screening Centre. The LPN will provide both pre and post procedure care for patients undergoing colonoscopy, leading both group and individual patient education classes, conducting individual screening medical histories and assessments, and other duties as required. The LPN recovers patients after receiving conscious sedation and undergoing colonoscopy procedure. The LPN must have experience recovering patients from medical procedures and experience with adult teaching.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Competence and experience in caring for patients receiving IV conscious sedation required. 3-5 year's recent acute medical/surgical nursing experience required. Demonstrated technical dexterity, knowledge and skill working with computer technology required. Ability to function independently and within a team in a fast paced environment required. Excellent communication and decision making skills required. Professional manner with a focus on ensuring a very positive patient experience required. This position requires lifting, bending, walking and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to push/pull stretchers. Must be able to overhead reach and lift up to 20-30 lbs. occasionally. Requires demonstrated critical thinking abilities and be able to multitask priorities frequently throughout the shift. Must be able to meet physical demands of the position. Demonstrated previous patient education experience required. The successful candidate will be required to do one on one and group patient teaching frequently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous GI experience preferred. Colon Cancer Screening Centre experience preferred. Previous experience with Connect Care outpatient charting preferred.
