Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC) is the home of Recovery Albertas' community-based supervised consumption site (SCS). The SCS services are part of a range of evidence-based services that support prevention, harm reduction and treatment for Albertans living with substance use challenges. SCS provides a place where people can use drugs in a monitored, hygienic environment to reduce harm from substance use while offering wrap-around services such as counselling, social work and referrals to services such as housing and treatment (e.g. opioid-dependency treatment, detox). Under the direction of the Safeworks Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse - Supervised Consumption is responsible for providing interventions within a harm reduction model at the Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre Supervised Consumption Site. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/ RPN) will be responsible for comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, critical thinking and clinical problem solving with the team, delivery of harm reduction supplies, supervised consumption clinical interventions and education (e.g. overdose management), de-escalation techniques, naloxone distribution, sexual health and other health education and support, and referrals to other health & social services. As the RN/ RPN, you will be required to interact effectively with diverse populations including gender, cultural, sexual and socio-economic, particularly the unhoused and people who use drugs.
