Your Opportunity:
The LPN works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of clients, families, and communities within his/her level of competency. The LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care delivered to both adult and pediatric populations. The LPN works to full scope of practice and is expected to care for all patients, including those needing cardiac monitoring. The Sheldon Chumir Health Centre is located in downtown Calgary and offers a wide range of services including Urgent Care, Mental Health, Public Health, Home Care, Specialty Clinics, and Community Outreach. The Urgent Care Centre is open 24 hours a day seven days a week and provides care for unscheduled health conditions to a diverse population as part of an integrated community service delivery model.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Practical Nursing educational program (diploma or certificate in practical nursing). Recent (within last year) experience of at least one year in adult acute care nursing is required. Expertise in clinical skills, including working with cardiac monitors. A valid Immunization certificate. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Demonstrated excellent critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem solving, and strong decision-making ability. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work independently and interdependently. Demonstrated ability to work well under fast-paced, demanding, and rapidly changing conditions. Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively with diverse cultural populations and marginalized populations with socio-economic diversities. Ability to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds, bend, reach, stand for long periods of time and work in confined/awkward spaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP). Recent NVCI training, and recent experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Department setting. Proficiency working with Connect Care (EPIC) ASAP module.
