The Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre (SAFPC) has an opportunity for a highly skilled, empathic, and driven Licensed Practical Nurse to work with our clients. Reporting to the care manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse will carry out professional duties with both the site's Assessment patients and Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) patients as assigned including court-ordered assessments of individuals facing charges under the Criminal Code of Canada. Nursing duties include but are not limited to, one-to-one interviews, history documentation, medication administration, admission and discharge procedures, attending weekly conferences, facilitation of patient groups, observing patients in all settings, documentation of patients' presentations/behaviours, preparing pre-board reports and participating in scheduled Criminal Code Review Board hearings and maintaining a safe and secure environment at all times. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of two years in the last five years' consistent experience in an adult general mental health setting. Solid knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organizational skills and critical thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Current Nonviolent crisis intervention is required. Current N95 Fit Test. Connect Care training.
