Your Opportunity:The Acute Geriatric Unit (AGU) at the Rockyview General Hospital provides comprehensive care to frail older adults with complex medical needs requiring rehabilitation in an acute care setting. The Acute Geriatric Unit uses a CoACT model and has a strong team environment consisting of Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and Support Workers. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the health care team, providing care to complex frail older adult patients and is expected to work to full scope as outlined in the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) scope of practice. The Licensed Practical Nurse participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate: communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the interdisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound nursing judgment; patient advocacy and patient teaching skills; principles of patient and family centred care; time management and prioritization skills; interpersonal conflict resolution skills and foster a positive environment with respect for each other, patients and families. There are 4 positions available.Description:As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1 year experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an acute medical or surgical unit within the last 2 years. New graduates who have completed a final preceptorship in an acute geriatric unit may be considered, please specify in application if you've completed your final preceptorship with Acute Geriatric Unit. Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to, walking, bending, lifting and standing for extended periods of the shift. Preferred Qualifications:Experience with managing patients with variable cognitive impairments. Current IV (starting), Level 1 CVC, PICC, Narcan and IV Direct (pushing) experience. Immunization certification. Current N95 Fit Test. It's Your Move certification. Skin and wound care experience including VAC dressings. Experience with electronic charting SCM.
