Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be a member of an integrated service delivery team, caring for patients presenting to the Airdrie Urgent Care Centre. In consultation with Physician, NP and RN colleagues, the LPN is expected to utilize professional knowledge, clinical judgment, critical thinking, technical and interpersonal skills in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in the Urgent Care setting. It is expected that the LPN will follow established policies and procedures, be responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice (2003). Strong communication and leadership skills are valued. This is a fast-paced environment that requires critical thinking skills. The Airdrie Urgent Care Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will provide care for a diverse population of unscheduled patients presenting with various health conditions. The Airdrie Urgent Care is located within the Airdrie Community Health Care Centre, which offers a wide range of services including urgent care, mental health, public health and home care. Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Heart and Stroke BLS certification required. ER/ UCC experience required. Minimum 1 year LPN experience required. Some knowledge of basic telemetry. Demonstrated competencies in assessment, planning and implementation of patient care. Must be prepared to work to full scope of practice; blood glucose monitoring, medication administration (po, sc, IV). Evidence of integrity, initiative, sound judgment, strong critical thinking skills, required. Demonstrated accountability for own practice. Ability to work as a member of an integrated team and to request and accept direction as required. Demonstrated commitment to professional development. Excellent interpersonal and team communication skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads. Good mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position required. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education. Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years urgent care /emergency experience preferred. Recent rural nursing, an asset. Pediatric experience as asset. An understanding of the concepts and delivery of nursing care in an Urgent Care Centre, an asset. Certification in IV push medication administration preferred. Vaccination course preferred. ACLS preferred.
