The Curriculum Services Department requires an innovative and energetic professional to work within the board's continuously evolving technological and resource environment.
The Media Technician is involved in all operational aspects of the Educational Media Resource Centre (EMRC), working both independently and in a team. The successful applicant will be responsible for resource acquisition, cataloguing, and distribution, processing of resources in Medianet, database maintenance, facilitating AV for online and in-person events, and client relations and support.
The functions of this position could include (but are not limited to):
Coordinate media and resource management services, including:
Maintaining and troubleshooting the booking/scheduling database, with end-user support and training as needed
Cataloguing, processing, and inspecting physical and digital resources available to schools, ensuring quality control and readiness for distribution
Preparing and documenting materials for delivery and courier service
Managing inventory of EMRC resource materials and media assets
Analyzing usage statistics to guide acquisition decisions and support system needs
Maintaining the Medianet database, including uploading visuals, PDFs, and accurate metadata
Provide advanced technical and multimedia support, including:
Setup, breakdown, and troubleshooting of audio/visual production equipment for onsite and offsite events
Duplication and conversion of various media formats
Video and audio recording, editing, and production using professional software
Digital photography and image editing (e.g., Adobe Photoshop)
Creation of ID badges and other print/digital media
Demonstration and training on equipment and software for staff via one-on-one support
Supporting the A/V and presentation requirements (both on-site and off-site and during regular and outside of regular hours) for DSBN Committee and Board meetings
Collaborate across departments (Equity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism, Indigenous Education, Curriculum, Special Education, and ITS) to acquire and manage system-wide resources aligned with current priorities
Support digital learning and innovation by reviewing and testing newly approved web applications (via ECNO VASP) for appropriateness, curricular alignment, and IT compatibility in collaboration with the Curriculum, Records Management and IT teams
Engage in professional learning, confidently coaching staff in the use of tools and resources
Operational duties, including:
Monitoring and resolving TopDesk service tickets in a timely, customer-focused manner
Travelling regularly to DSBN schools, offices, and offsite venues
Lifting and transporting resources (up to 50 pounds) as part of daily duties
Performing other duties as assigned
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
Minimum 2-year diploma in Library Technician and/or Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field such as Broadcasting and Audio/Video Production, or equivalent work experience
Demonstrate proficiency with A/V equipment setup and troubleshooting, and with media software
Lifting equipment and ladder work
A valid driver's license, along with the ability to travel to schools, offices and offsite locations as required
Excellent learning, communication, organizational and customer-service skills
