Parkland Regional Library is hiring a temporary, full-time Teen and Adult Programmer for the Yorkton Public Library. This position work 37.5 hours a week from Tuesday to Saturday, including evenings. Part-time applicants will be considered but must state their availability in their application. The candidate will be trained on-site and will be a member of the CUPE 1904 Bargaining Unit.
The Teen and Adult Programmer, under the supervision of the Yorkton Branch Manager and/or Director, is responsible for all aspects of local branch operations and services with a focus on teen and adult programming and community engagement. Employees in this class have a high degree of independence within their duties and have considerable autonomy with a directed framework. Internal relationships include working productively with all staff of Parkland Regional Library. External relationships include members of the public, vendors, community groups, and librarians from other regions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops and implements innovative teen and adult programs and activities that encourage Library use and enhance the image of the Library in the community.
Provides and operates programming opportunities for community and patron groups as well as members of the public, such as senior's groups, reading clubs, activity-based organizations, and identifiable social groups. This includes set up and take down of program spaces and may include the development of programming materials.
Responsible for co-ordinating the books-to-home program in Yorkton, including the selection, management, delivery, and processing of materials to local residences and living facilities.
Assists in evaluating and maintaining the young adult and adult collections and makes recommendations for collection development based on community needs, usage levels, and relevance of materials.
Performs regular collection maintenance such as weeding, material repairs, and item record tracking.
Receives and processes new teen and adult materials, including donated items.
Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all programs and library resources, using all forms of available media and works to link the Library to community groups.
Creates attractive and timely displays to engage patrons and promote Library opportunities throughout the facility, including new materials, audiovisual resources, and specific collections.
Provides outstanding internal and external customer service.
Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports Library goals and objectives.
Supervise public use of Library space, with a focus on the young adult area.
Performs all duties of Library Clerk including circulation, reader advisory services, reception duties, create and update patron records, as well as the enforcement of Library regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualification:
Post-secondary qualification in Library Science or other relevant field.
Knowledge of young adult and adult fiction and non-fiction literature.
Ability to effectively communicate with all ages and demographics, including young adults and senior citizens.
Computer proficiency and knowledge of social media platforms.
Ability to apply critical analysis to situations and procedures.
Ability to solve complex problems within job responsibility.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Strong customer service skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to lift 35 pounds / 15.87 kg.
Valid driver's licence.
Criminal records check including vulnerable sector check required.
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of Library procedures and routines
Programming and literacy experience with teens and young adults
Program planning and organizational experience
Experience with facilitating community groups and organizations
Lifelong learner. Able to learn other roles and progress in the organization
