Position Summary



Reporting to the Associate Director, Library Services, the successful incumbents will become part of a pool of casual part-time library technicians, available to be scheduled for short-term durations on an as-needed basis. These library technicians will provide Library services and Learning Centre services to clients associated with Centennial College in-person, by phone and online and will conduct various duties related to library technical services and operations.




Responsibilities




Circulation and borrower services: check-in, check-out, holds, renewals, fines, library accounts, etc. Reference services: in-person, telephone and online via askON, catalogue and electronic database searches, locating items on the shelves Troubleshooting technical and access problems including printers, photocopiers, college system access and making appropriate referrals to IT support Processing payments using debit, credit, and cash, keeping accurate transaction records Recording statistics Assisting with student orientation and library promotional activities Assist students to book tutoring appointments and answer basic Learning Centre questions Additional duties as required





Qualifications/Experience




2-year CAAT Library and Information Technician diploma required 4-year post-secondary degree, or equivalent education and work experience is an asset Experience in circulation, preferably using the ILS system, Alma Experience searching research databases and providing reference service Demonstrated strength in customer service skills and student support Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated qualities that include strong problem-solving skills, initiative, a proactive approach to duties, good time management, and a commitment to diversity Demonstrated ability to work well within a team or independently Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint





Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
