Manager Library Services and the professional guidance of the Librarians, Library Co-ordinator Collections and Technical Services, and Co-ordinators, the incumbent performs a variety of academic support and technical service functions associated with the operation of the Library Learning Commons.Key responsibilities:

  • Provides reference information and research assistance to clients that require assistance.
  • Demonstrates the formulation of a search in multiple sources and a variety of media.
  • Using specific platforms for video or online chat, provides online reference service to support queries from students across 13 colleges.
  • Participates in the Reference Cluster Team at a designated campus. And provides orientation to new students.
  • Performs derivative and original cataloguing for all formats adhering to professional bibliographic standards (AACRII, MARC and LCSH).
  • Assists with revising/testing bibliographic data using the library LSP.
  • Maintains the Reserve collection using the Leganto platform and working collaboratively with the librarian to update collection.
  • Conducts assessments related to the LEAP project.
  • Supports acquisitions processes.
  • Provides support to Librarians during library instruction sessions.
  • Develops and maintains research guides.
  • Supports the Accessible Content ePortal Service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Two-year diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Library and Information Technician.
  • Three (3) years\' experience in an academic library environment.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Knowledge of library databases and collections in program areas offered at the College.
  • Advanced knowledge of the latest cataloguing and classification protocols and uploading MARC records.
  • Advanced knowledge of acquisitions procedures from choosing suppliers, placing, and tracking orders to troubleshooting issues relevant to all types of formats.
  • Basic accounting record keeping and calculations.
  • Knowledge of library platforms such as the LSP (e.g. ALMA/Primo; Leganto; Rialto, Discovery platforms; Link Resolvers; SpringShare Research guides and LibAnswers; Chat services and tools to enhance the search process, LEAP).
  • Intermediate knowledge of office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of universal design principles and protocols for accessibility.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a solid customer/public service focus.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work effectively in teams.
  • Ability to lift between 20 kg and 44 lbs (i.e., boxes, books, equipment, supplies, etc.).
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College\'s priorities on diversity and equity.
