Job Description


Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Library Services, Supports an integrated digital library collection by recommending and writing new procedures and policies, configuring and implementing new local institutional collections and institutional electronic collections, and updating access pages.

Responsibilities:

Digital Library Services

\xc2\xb7 Supports an integrated digital library collection by recommending and writing new procedures and policies, configuring and implementing new local institutional collections and institutional electronic collections, and updating access pages.

\xc2\xb7 Acts as technical expert for vendor consultations and resolves access issues for e-resources and communicates with staff, students and faculty using multiple channels.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains metadata integrity/accuracy in Alma by performing ongoing daily, weekly, monthly or yearly functional system tasks, collaborating with 3rd party vendors/publishers during maintenance/interface changes, and creating instructional aids and maintaining updated documentation within the library intranet.

\xc2\xb7 System Administration includes administering digital library resource management/access systems and knowledge bases, maintaining e-resource metadata, authenticating clients into the library\'s licensed e-resources and online databases both on and off campus, and monitoring system mailing lists and other relevant sources of information.

Library Technology Research & Development

\xc2\xb7 Researches, investigates, and provides input on information system and service requirements in the Library; participates in library projects and committees as assigned; keeps abreast of technology developments.

Unified Library System (ULS)

Provides technical and system administration for the Unified Library System (ULS} (Alma/Leganto/ALMA-D/PrimoVE Discovery) and extension products which encompasses the following:

\xc2\xb7 Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Technical support and troubleshooting for the ULS system, extension software such as Biblioteca and 3rd party software such as Spinelabel and MarcEditor.

\xc2\xb7 System Administration and Maintenance: Oversees the Library\'s patron database, notices, and loan rules, and ensures the proper importing and exporting of records from a variety of vendors, including the creation and maintenance of publishing profiles to extract MARC records and shares with external systems.

\xc2\xb7 System configuration and business process mapping: Undertakes comprehensive analysis and testing of new requests for change to policies, locations, workflows and processes to ensure they are compatible with existing workflows and configurations.

\xc2\xb7 Leganto: Oversees, configures and runs course loader job, performs end of semester processing, and collaborates with User Service and the copyright team.

\xc2\xb7 Library Discovery Search (Primo VE): Performs regular reviews and detailed testing of the system\xe2\x80\x99s performance as needed; provides backup for Systems and Data Librarian for system administrative responsibilities and resolving discovery support issues.

\xc2\xb7 Reports: Generates and prints systems reports and troubleshoots any problems with reports, and oversees part-time staff member assigned to reports.

\xc2\xb7 Research and Development: Monitors Alma-L and other relevant sources of information on library systems, attends training sessions and conferences, and maintains certifications related to systems as required.

\xc2\xb7 Training and Documentation: Develops and delivers, facilitates and/or participates in staff training on the library systems; creates, reviews and maintains procedures, documentation and client manuals for library systems and posts to the library intranet.

Qualifications:

A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the below requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted. Equivalency will be assessed by the talent acquisition team.

Education

\xc2\xb7 Minimum completed three (3) year diploma or degree in computer science or computer network studies coupled with a two (2) year diploma in library techniques.

Experience

\xc2\xb7 Minimum five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience administering, maintaining and optimizing library systems within an academic environment, including troubleshooting a wide variety of library technologies, resources and online services.

\xc2\xb7 Experience working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (ITS staff, library staff, library vendors, managers) and coordinating a team of staff.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with hardware and software evaluation, vendor/product evaluation and testing protocols and procedures.

\xc2\xb7 Experience working in and supporting systems in a Linux or similar computing environment.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with project tenders and RFP development is an asset.

Skills

\xc2\xb7 Excellent communication skills and demonstrated commitment to service excellence, with the ability to demonstrate highly technical environments to a full spectrum of customers (students, faculty, staff) ranging in technical ability.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently, organize workflow and prioritize tasks, and complete projects.

\xc2\xb7 Strong analytical and problem sounding skills with the ability to exercise judgment in resolving or troubleshooting complex technical problems.

\xc2\xb7 Innovative mindset, with the ability to initiate ideas, analyze policy and procedures and recommend changes.

\xc2\xb7 Thorough understanding of library standards (especially MARC metadata), workflow and processes, as well as integrated library systems data structures in order to extract highly tailored statistics and reports using Oracle Analytics and Excel.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to self-learn new software technologies and adapt to new technology led processes, in addition to knowledge of the following:

o Web editor and graphic software

o Specialized editors and tools (e.g., MARCedit, vi, WS FTP)

o Unix commands

o Scripting and security

o XML

o Networks and Internet protocols

o Project Management software (e.g., MS Project)
