Job Description

The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economics consulting firm, is looking for a Library Specialist to join our Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, Toronto, ON, or Washington, DC office. The primary responsibilities of this position encompass reference and research, document/data licensing, and collection management. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Library & Knowledge Services and is part of a highly collaborative team, you will work closely with your teammates to uphold the high level of quality, consistency, and customer service as defined and implemented by Brattle's Library & Knowledge Services department.

Librarians at Brattle have the opportunity to research complex questions like cryptocurrency trends in litigation, scientific expert compensation for start-ups, the historic development of railroads in British Columbia and more. Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of this role include:

  • Perform and deliver custom, in-depth research assignments on a variety of subjects to support the information needs of both the Consulting and Corporate Services staff of the firm. This includes:
  • Providing skilled and sophisticated domestic and international research using traditional and electronic resources
  • Compiling and organizing data from research assignments into actionable results
  • Responding to reference, document retrieval, and information requests in a timely and efficient manner
  • Advising Consultants and members of other firm departments on successful research strategies and provide guidance on navigating Library resources
  • Provide training on information services to all new firm employees, evaluate new resources, and advise internal business units on resource options as appropriate
  • Assist with maintenance of the Library's online catalog (Soutron), EBSCO platform, and SharePoint pages, including updating links to online resources and user guides as well as develop guides for newly licensed databases
  • Collaborate with Library team on resource planning; research and evaluate new tools to implement service improvements and enhancements
  • Opportunity to participate in firm level business development projects, collaborate in cross-departmental knowledge management efforts, and join employee resource groups, like the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council
THE CANDIDATE

This position requires a collaborative, critical thinker with a keen attention to detail, strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Interest and experience with financial research is a plus. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed individual with a proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You must be intellectually curious with a passion for research and problem solving. Other requirements include:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; MLS/ MLIS or MBA degree from an accredited graduate program is strongly preferred
  • Two to four years of experience in an information management setting, either a library or other content management environment
  • Business background and familiarity with financial terms and concepts
  • Proficiency with specialized market data resources including, but not limited to: Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, Eikon, Factiva, LexisNexis, Lex Machina and Pitchbook
  • Familiarity with basic principles, standards, and best practices regarding controlled vocabularies and metadata
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with SharePoint, or a willingness to learn
  • Dedicated focus on customer service while exercising good judgment in the handling of confidential information and matters
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, and writing/proofing skills
