Job Description

Providence Centre, built in 1965 by the Sisters of Providence, is primarily the home of the Sisters. It sits on a 25-acre property with beautiful grounds, a chapel, and an oratory to the Mary Mother of Sorrows. Within Providence Centre is a Nursing Care Unit licensed to provide supportive living services

.

Dietary, housekeeping, linen care and maintenance services are provided in-house. Providence Centre is committed to meeting the needs of tomorrow with vision, united in strength and in the belief that Providence will rise before the sun.

Providence Centre is looking for a Library Clerk/Assistant. Shifts (4.5 hours/day), with flexibility for other shifts as needed. Successful candidate will be reporting to the Executive Director.

Hours of Work:

4.5 hours per shift, weekdays

Job duties include but not limited to:



Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming library Provide excellent first-contact customer service to visitors Assist patrons with reference queries and borrower requests Perform shelf-reading and inventory support Process loans and returns, sort and reshelve materials Assist with displays, special projects, book repair, and other tasks as needed Add materials to the database (training provided; cataloguing experience an asset) Provide occasional relief for breaks at Reception Desk and operate telephone switchboard Update the monthly calendar using Microsoft Word Catalogue nonfiction books including French, Spanish, DVDs or CDs to ResourceMate Catalogue fiction books to an excel spreadsheet Write, print and apply spine labels to books Add dust jackets to hardcover books Assess duplicate books and replace them as needed Shelve books according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System Sort, burst, and file cataloging cards Process periodicals, mark the date of issue in the periodical index and apply the Providence Centre sticker

Qualifications and Requirements:



Excellent attention to detail, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency, with demonstrated internet research skills Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal Classification system, the Library of Congress Subject Headings, and the ability to file alpha-numerically Ability to work in a one-person library setting, and along with the departmental teams Speak and write English fluently (French and Spanish are assets) Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, and bending; lifting library materials, reaching to place materials on shelves, pushing and pulling book carts Library experience and/or post-secondary studies preferred Eligible to work in Canada. Must be fluent in the English Language, written, and verbal Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector
