The West Vancouver Memorial Library is currently seeking permanent full-time Library Assistant II to join our highly qualified team. These important team members perform a variety of collections support, clerical work, and public service functions in the Circulation Department. Reporting to the Circulation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for:• Providing routine assistance to the public in service desks or using self-service checkout machines; answering routine directional and informational questions from the public, in person, on the telephone, and by email; processing holds and overdues and addressing issues with patron accounts;
• Updating patron records and collecting statistics using the Sierra Integrated Library System (ILS);
• Entering bibliographic records into and updating records in a database using a computer terminal; and performing simple bibliographic searching;
• Collecting fees and replacement charges on patron accounts; processing payments and assisting with daily cash reconciliation, bank deposits, and float balancing;
• Off-loading and sorting book and non-book items from Automatic Materials Handling machine (AMH); troubleshooting routine mechanical and software issues;
• Sorting and shelving books and other materials into alphabetical and numerical order;
• Assisting with the maintenance and arrangement of library materials, including basic mending and processing tasks; and,
• Performing other related duties as required.


Successful candidates will possess: excellent customer service skills; strong computer skills and a positive orientation towards technology; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; the ability to interact tactfully, courteously and effectively with people of all ages and other employees; excellent oral and written communication skills; and strong attention to detail and organizational skills.


The preferred candidate will also have: completion of Grade 12 and preferably previous experience working in a busy public library setting.


The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Union (WVMEA) - Permanent, Full-Time



Hours of Work:



35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)



Starting Rate of Pay:



$26.85 per hour


This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually
