We have an incredible opportunity for a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to perform a wide range of interesting and challenging work as part of a very collaborative team! As Legal Counsel, you will provide timely and practical advice to support all departments on complex legal issues and transactions.


Status: Regular Full Time, Excluded



Number of Positions: 1




Pay Grade: $98,500-$147,800 (annual base salary)

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position.

A

s a Legal Counsel, you will:



Provides advice on a variety of confidential legal matters with an emphasis on regulatory and administrative matters relating to the Safety Standards Actand associated regulations. Works with senior management and client departments to identify and resolve legal and business issues. Advises on the impact of new legislation, and judicial and Safety Standards Appeal Board decisions, and is proactive in identifying potential legal issues. Conducts appeals under the Safety Standards Act and other proceedings as required or retains and instructs external counsel as authorized by the Leader, Legal and Privacy. Provides advice in connection with enforcement activity to support fair and proportionate decisions and actions that are compliant with relevant legislation and procedures. Prepares and advises on various legal documents, including but not limited to, contracts, procurement documents, and collective bargaining proposals. Provides support and advice on freedom of information and protection of privacy matters. May supervise Legal & Privacy Assistant to ensure quality service is provided to external and internal clients.



Knowledge, Skills & Experience you have:




Law Degree supplemented by 3-6 years recent experience. Administrative law, contracts, procurement law, privacy and freedom of information experience are significant assets. Current member in good standing of the Law Society of BC. Demonstrated knowledge of the law in a range of practice areas relevant to the position. Ability to analyze, research, evaluate and interpret legal issues. Ability to provide legal opinions and advice in an efficient manner. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
