Job Description

A Toronto based investment firm is seeking an In-House Lawyer on a permanent basis. Your background will include practice work with investment funds in either or both corporate or personal wealth clients. That experience could be from either a firm, another in-house role or a combination of both. Your knowledge of the Canadian Regulatory environment, in addition to experience with preparing and reviewing various legal, investment and other financial contracts has prepared you for this opportunity.

Responsibilities include:

- Draft, review and negotiate various documents to support transactions and agreements
- Keep up to date on changes to regulatory legislation and identify the impact to current and future agreements
- Provide legal guidance for fund transactions based on industry guidelines
- Consult with external legal counsel as needed
- Ensure all records and processes comply with regulatory guidelines and development of new or amended policy

- Strong academic credentials with a J.D. from an accredited law school; currently registered with the Ontario Bar, be active and in good standing
- Completion of CSC an asset
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to interact with legal and business leaders internally and externally
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance as it relates to financial services, financial crime, privacy, corporate governance and risk management
- Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to compose plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks
- Extensive experience in contract drafting and dealing with financial/investment legal issues and transactions, preferably in a regulated financial services environment with experience in dealing with multiple regulatory frameworks in different jurisdictions
- Demonstrated strategic approach to legal problem solving; Detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills
- Minimum 5 years of practice in a law firm or in-house with a practice concentration in investments, real estate, finance, entity formation and/or other related commercial areas
