:Position Summary:To provide counsel and legal services on corporate, governance, and operational regulatory matters required for the administration and enforcement of the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017. To represent the organization on legal matters, including appeals support at the License Appeals Tribunal (LAT) and other litigation.Functional/Technical Responsibilities:Provide counsel and legal advice and services to all departments on a wide spectrum of corporate, governance, and regulatory matters, including the provision of opinions on various interpretations of legislation and applicable law, analyzing and resolving legal problems/issues, and governance matters arising from board and committee meetings.
Provide legal counsel and advice with respect to licensing, compliance, and enforcement, and related risks, issues, and legal strategies.
Provide legal advice in support of order-making and licensing decisions, inspections, and compliance activities, including support for the drafting of orders and decisions, and related documents.
Represent the organization at LAT hearings and related legal proceedings; brief the General Counsel and CEO/Registrar on matters relating to LAT hearings, including advice on litigation strategies and settlement options.
Conduct legal research; advise on regulatory and legislative matters, translating them into operating policies and procedures.
Lead/participate in special projects dealing with legislative and policy review, corporate by-laws, and any impending legislative changes, as assigned.
Participate on project teams and committees to provide legal advice and support, as required.
