About the Role:
Are you ready to step into a regional counsel role with global impact?
ALS is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our global legal team, based in North Vancouver, Canada. In this high-visibility role, you will partner with business leaders across North America, advising on commercial transactions, governance, compliance, and disputes -- while also supporting ALS' innovation and transformation initiatives.
What you'll do

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts.
• Support corporate transactions, M&A, and due diligence.
• Advise on corporate governance, entity management, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage disputes, claims, and litigation with external counsel where appropriate.
• Partner with the business to reduce risk and drive performance.
• Contribute legal support to cross-functional projects, including cutting edge initiatives involving innovation, technology, and governance of data and AI.

What we're looking for

• Qualified lawyer, admitted to practice, with 7+ years of post-admission experience as a practicing lawyer.
• At least 4 years' experience as an in-house legal counsel in a corporate role, preferably within a multinational.
• Fluent in English.
• Strong expertise in contract law, commercial transactions, and exposure to M&A transactions and integration projects.
• Experience in corporate governance, including drafting corporate resolutions, and dealing with corporate registries.
• Practical experience resolving disputes and advising on risk mitigation strategies.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-lawyers.

Nice to have: exposure to data governance, AI governance, data commercialization, innovation initiatives, and/or experience supporting cross-functional corporate projects. Experience with privacy/data protection, IP/trademarks, or cross-border matters will also be valued, as will knowledge of TIC, food, pharma, environmental, or minerals sectors.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
Be available to work outside normal business hours when required;
Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day;
Ability to communicate in various electronic formats including email, video conference and phone;
Our benefits include:
An estimated annual salary ranging from $160,000 - $180,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
