ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be a key member of the Legal Services team and will advise the business on a wide array of matters, including music licensing, tariff setting, member queries, corporate governance and technology agreements. The Legal Counsel will also work closely with external counsel on matters before the courts and the Copyright Board of Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assisting on tariff matters before the Copyright Board
  • Participating in SOCAN\'s routine enforcement and major litigation
  • Advising on matters relating to copyright and the music industry
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Between 2 and 6 years experience post-call
  • Corporate and commercial law experience strongly preferred
  • Background in IP law preferred
  • Some litigation experience would be an asset
COMPETENCIES
  • Strong analytical, drafting and organization skills, as well as excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual in French and English strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of the Canadian music industry and/or rights management would be an asset
