Job Description

As Legal Counsel, you will be a key player in achieving the company's strategic objectives by delivering prompt and pragmatic legal services, including advising the company of its legal obligations, identifying legal risks and proposing mitigations, as well as negotiating complex terms and conditions to ensure the protection of company interests. This means using a results-oriented approach in advising senior stakeholders and acting as a valued facilitator to a growing and dynamic business. More specifically, you will:


Prepare and negotiate commercial agreements across functional areas; utilizing outstanding analytical, drafting and negotiation skills; Demonstrate the ability to learn quickly and apply technical skills to a wide range of business initiatives; Monitor risks, escalate issues and propose action plans or solutions; Provide legal risk assessments and assist in the preparation of bids and proposals packages; Develop, draft and update legal templates, standard operating procedures and recommend process improvements for the legal department; Direct and support the Contract Management and Supply Chain teams to ensure the appropriate flow-down of terms and conditions to subcontractors; Partner with internal stakeholders and external counsel, as appropriate, to support business opportunities while ensuring compliance with legislation, industry guidelines and internal policies; Provide timely practical legal advice on a wide range of proposed business initiatives, in the areas of government contracting, procurement, construction, regulatory affairs, sales and marketing, and competition; Respond to requests for access to information and various governmental filings and requirements as they arise; and Conduct legal and compliance training sessions for colleagues across the various internal departments.

Qualifications




Juris Doctor/Bachelor of Law; Minimum of three years of experience practising commercial law for a law firm, government or corporation; Membership in a provincial bar association required. Proficiency in English is required for this position, as the incumbent will be required to interact with our English-speaking clients, partners, and suppliers; Successfully complete the investigation and security clearance process required by the federal government's Contract Security Program.
