Reporting to Director, Associate General Counsel, this individual will assist with the provision of effective legal services for Samsung Electronics Canada and its subsidiaries and divisions. The role will primarily focus on providing legal support with trade association support, public policy sensing and regulatory developments, appropriate reporting of legal and regulatory updates, legal compliance and training, establishing appropriate corporate compliance policies and procedures, providing support with governmental affairs, involvement in corporate compliance investigations and support for contract negotiations and agreements.

Role and Responsibilities

• Support SECA\xe2\x80\x99s government relations activities and governmental affairs
• Provide appropriate sensing of public policy and regulatory developments and disseminating such across the organization
• Assist in developing SECA\xe2\x80\x99s position statements on public policy and regulatory matters
• Provide general legal advice to SECA and its divisions and subsidiaries as requested by the General Counsel or Associate General Counsel
• Assist with the provision of legal and compliance training to the organization
• Ensure appropriate reporting of legal and regulatory updates, both internal and external, that could impact business operations
• Assist with contract review of MSAs, NDAs, SOWs and other legal and transactional documents as necessary, inclusive of updating standard contract templates
• Assist with policy drafting and updating as required and establishing appropriate corporate compliance policies and procedures
• Assist with marketing and advertising review to ensure compliance with applicable law and internal AD LCP review process
• Engage in legal research as required

Skills and Qualifications

Education:

• Law degree from a Canadian school or a recognized international school
• Called to the bar and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or the law society of another Canadian province

Knowledge:

• Extensive knowledge of corporate commercial law including:

• Employment law and investigations
• Retail/Distribution
• Contracts/contract negotiation
• Corporate ethics and compliance

Experience:

• Solid legal training in corporate commercial law gained from a law firm or corporate setting with 1 to 3 years of experience
