Job Description


SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Legal Counsel II provides leadership, advice and recommendations to the Corporation on legal matters to ensure SaskEnergy\'s position is optimized. This includes drafting legal documentation and providing legal advice, as well as recommending options and identifying potential impacts.

Position Details

Non-union - This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

Provide legal services to the Corporation including the negotiation and documentation of corporate business transactions and initiatives to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, case law, and corporate policies.

Provide legal solutions that support integration of business decisions with the corporate strategic direction.

Identify legal issues and provide guidance and advice to determine the optimum corporate position in legal and business matters.

Research, gather and evaluate information to determine the business requirements and impact of applicable laws, contractual terms, corporate policies and industry practices.

Conduct, in conjunction with business units, negotiations and achieve resolution of legal issues based on law, contractual terms, corporate policies and industry practices to mitigate liability and risk to the Corporation.

Identify and draft appropriate contracts, memoranda and other legal documentation to support and implement corporate decisions in accordance with corporate and legal standards.

Represent the Corporation in the prosecution and defense of claims, litigation, mediations, arbitrations, regulatory matters, and similar forums; and generally conduct and manage legal proceedings.

Manage and oversee external legal counsel as required.

Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor Degree.

Member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan or eligible to become a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan.

Ten (10) years of legal experience, including four (4) years in subject areas relevant to the business of SaskEnergy, including labour/employment, corporate/commercial and energy.

Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.

Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.

A more junior lawyer may also be considered as a path to advance toward a broader legal experience portfolio.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.

Additional Information

Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.

A Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License is required.
