Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00


Position Highlights



We are looking for a full-time junior or intermediate practising lawyer (with at least 3 - 5 years post-call experience) in the


areas of Aboriginal Law and Public Utility or Utility Regulation to join our Legal team for a period of approximately 12


months.


As an integral part of the Legal Services team, the successful candidate will be mentored by other in-house lawyers


specializing in Indigenous and Regulatory matters, work with a Legal Services team of more than 25 lawyers, and mainly


support business colleagues specializing in Indigenous Relations and Public Utility Regulation.


What you'll do





As a member of the Legal Services team, you would:


Understand and effectively communicate BC Hydro's corporate values, priorities, operations, and risk tolerances.


Work through legal issues and provide timely legal advice to assist practical and strategic business decisions.


Communicate evolving legal and strategic risks through legal opinions, verbal advice, and briefing papers.


Work with other lawyers, both in-house and external legal counsel and, if required, manage the scope and budget for work
done by external legal counsel.




Foster and promote a work environment that is productive, collaborative, inclusive and diverse.

What you bring




You will have a current membership (or eligibility for membership) in the Law Society of British Columbia, plus a minimum
of 3 - 5 years of experience, either in-house or with a law firm.




Candidates with lesser experience may be considered if that experience has been focused on Indigenous and Regulatory
matters. We will not be accepting applications from articling students.




You have strong legal drafting, writing, negotiating and people skills, and are able to communicate legal views concisely
and effectively.




You are excellent at managing complex issues under time pressures.


You are experienced working with business teams or subject matter experts and are able to consider corporate objectives,
operational needs and public policy when providing legal advice.




You enjoy working in a team environment with colleagues and clients who are specialists in their field.


Your experience has included:


Knowledge of key principles relating to Aboriginal law, practical experience in consulting with First Nations and drafting
commercial agreements with First Nation parties; and



Experience with public utilities and utilities regulation in British Columbia or Canada or knowledge of principles relating to
administrative law.

This position may be hired at a senior level based around candidate experience Annual salary: $ 127,900.00 - 161,800.00


Hybrid work model with in-person attendance at BC Hydro's offices in Vancouver at least 2 or 3 days a week.
