Due to our ongoing national growth and expanding business lines, we have an exciting opportunity for legal counsel who wants to learn the job of disability management while also supporting disability managers. As legal counsel, you will support our team of disability managers by providing legal representation for WCB appeals by utilizing your superior litigation and analytical skills, you will work to identify legal issues impacting claim resolution and develop creative and proactive approaches to file resolution. Dallas Mercer Consulting (DMC) is seeking full-time Legal Counsel to join their team in Mount Pearl, NL. The ideal candidate is a motivated, energetic, career-minded individual.

Responsibilities:

Give accurate and timely counsel to DMC staff and clients in the area of workers' compensation and sick leave Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance Research and evaluate client risk factors regarding business decisions and operations Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation, in particular WCB legislation across Canada

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Laws and be an active member in good standing with the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or New Brunswick Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures Basic knowledge and understanding of the principles of WCB jurisdiction considered an asset Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies High degree of professional ethics and integrity Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information Outstanding communication skills Proven experience as a Legal Counsel in business environment is considered an asset

Bilingualism would be considered essential
