Our client, a Personal Injury Law Firm, is looking to add Legal Assistants/Law Clerks to their dynamic team.

LEGAL ASSISTANTS

Legal assistants provide administrative support to lawyers, paralegals, and accident benefits staff.

The main responsibilities of a Legal Assistant are:

  • Communication with clients, adjusters, opposing counsel, etc.
  • Assisting in drafting of pleadings, affidavits, court documents
  • Docketing all tasks using Soluno
  • Handling correspondence at the direction of the assigned lawyer
  • Scheduling discoveries, mediations, pre-trial, and settlement conferences
  • Maintaining lawyer\xe2\x80\x99s calendar, file list
  • Liaising with Accident Benefits Assistants, AB Directors
  • Using MedChart to obtain medical documentation etc.
  • Ensuring court filings are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Service of originating processes
  • Requisitioning cheques for payment of various invoices
Performance Targets:
  • Returning client calls, emails \xe2\x80\x93 same day
  • Medical records requests \xe2\x80\x93 within 2 days of instruction
  • Scheduling Examinations for Discovery \xe2\x80\x93 within 2 weeks of receipt of Statement of Defence
  • Drafting Affidavit of Documents \xe2\x80\x93 1 month in advance of ED
  • Satisfying undertakings \xe2\x80\x93 within 3 months of ED
LAW CLERKS

Law Clerks provide administrative support to lawyers, paralegals and accident benefits staff.

The main responsibilities of a law clerk are:
  • Preparing, editing, and proofreading tort medical legal referral letters and/or ab assessment referral letters
  • Drafting LAT arbitration indexes and briefs
  • Requesting medical records, when necessary
  • Reviewing, indexing and organizing medical briefs
  • Preparing detailed medical summaries upon instruction from Managing Lawyers
  • Tracking all requests for assessments and when they are received, sent etc.
  • Maintaining Law Clerk Master Sheet now known as Tort Tracker, AB Tracker
  • Communicating with instructing staff member re which assessments to schedule as well as which Assessment Centre to schedule with
  • Reviewing files to ensure we are in possession of all medicals, reports, imaging, etc.
  • Following up on medical requests (MedChart) to make sure assessors have latest medical information
  • Producing all medical records, medical legal reports etc. to opposing party(ies), our own assessors etc.
Performance Targets:
  • Drafting medical legal referral letters, AB medical briefs \xe2\x80\x93 within 5 business days from the date of instruction
  • Medical records requests, where necessary \xe2\x80\x93 same day
  • Diarizing approvals and denials \xe2\x80\x93 same day
