Role Overview
As a legal assistant you will be the point of contact for new clients. You will provide support to Immigration Counsel in processing ongoing refugee claims including disclosure submission and all types of appeals. Handling work flow and communication; to ensure that all responsibilities are completed accurately and handled with accuracy in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
Initial assessment of clients or screening of client's requirements on initial consultation form.
Preparation of case notes of new case files and maintain ongoing updates.
Collecting supporting documents and information from the clients for the preparation case file.
Preparation of IMM forms for Refugee claims in coordination with the client.
Preparation of Basis of Claim Form and writing formal narrative with necessary research.
Conduct necessary legal, internet research and preparation of case law summaries.
Preparation of disclosure submission and Minister intervention along with supporting documents.
Providing assistance to client in the compilation of relevant evidence.
Preparation of hearing questions for client and conducting preliminary and hearing practice.
Arranging mock trial for refugee claim hearing before Immigration & Refugee Board.
Preparation of all type of notice of appeals.
Coordination with client and Refugee Appeal Division for timely submission of appeal disclosures.
Responsible for submission of applications/documents/ case files to Immigration & Refugee Board (IRB),
Prepare client's file for the issuance of FOSS and CAIPS notes, whenever needed.
Retainer agreements follow up with potential clients in coordination with Accounts department.
Maintain and soft and hard files of clients records with necessary updates.
Arranging work permit and medical treatment authorization for refugee claimants.
Preparation of Pre Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) with full research documentation.
Preparation of Humanitarian & Companionate Applications with full research documentation.
Preparation of detention review documentations along with case law and legal research.
Analyzing and proposing strategic road map for the overseas refugee claimants.
Handling refugee claim processing or filing at IRCC offices and port of entries.
Provide assistance to Case Processing staff with any assigned task.
Responsible for assisting Immigration Case Processing Manager concerning other ongoing files, whenever needed.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Law, Immigration Studies, or related field with relevant certification.
Experience:
1+ year proven working experience in similar role.
Familiarity with Legal software is preferable.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe PDF tools, and Case Management Software
Ability to navigate government portals .
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical skills to assess client eligibility and identify optimal pathways.
Excellent written communication for drafting client emails and relevant communication.
Multilingual skills are a strong asset.
