Job description:
We are looking to hire a legal assistant. Placement within our firm will depend upon the qualifications, experience, and aptitude of the successful candidate.
In our busy litigation practice there are opportunities for an assistant who can assemble, organize, and list documents; work with a lawyer to produce and file pleadings, applications, affidavits, application records, trial briefs, and other court documents; communicate with clients and with members of other law firms via telephone, email, and letter; assist in trial preparation.
For the right applicant, there may be opportunities to work in real estate conveyancing, corporate finance, and business buy-sells.
Our ideal candidate will take pride in the written work product that the firm produces, and will have good communication and interpersonal skills.
An applicant lacking in law firm experience, but otherwise having good computer skills and experience in a professional setting, may be considered for hire. Be prepared to share with us one or two pieces of your earlier work product.
Responsibilities include:
Performing complex editing and formatting for correspondence and documents;
Monitoring and following up on documents at various stages of a file's life;
Performing day-to-day administrative tasks including file organization, document management, diarizations, booking appointments and maintaining calendars;
Drafting documents;
Conducting and reviewing necessary Land Title, BC Assessment Authority, Tax, etc. searches;
Corresponding with clients and other parties including emailing and/or answering telephone calls;
Errands such as running deposits to bank, delivering documents to other law firms, filing documents at the courthouse, etc.
Qualifications include:
Preferably: graduate of a recognized Legal Assistant or Paralegal Program;
Preferably: 2 years' experience in any law practice area;
Proficient in Microsoft 365 and flexibility to learn internal computer systems and processes;
Typing skills;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to maintain an efficient electronic file system;
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines;
Ability to follow instructions from a diverse group of lawyers and staff with minimal supervision;
Familiarity with filing documents at the Land Titles Office;
Ability to handle a high-volume and fast-paced practice, work autonomously, prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.

Ability to commute of a plan to relocate before start date.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $37,500.00-$60,000.00 per year
