Legal Assistant
to join our Family Law Department.
This is an in-person role and requires in-office attendance.
Position Overview
The Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to the lawyers in the Family Law Department. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, manages competing priorities, and ensures the smooth progression of files from intake to resolution.
Key Responsibilities
File Management & Client Support
Open and organize client files in Clio Manage following firm protocols.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date digital filing and correspondence records.
Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff in a professional and timely manner.
Schedule client meetings.
Track and calendar limitation periods and procedural deadlines.
Document Preparation & Court Filings
Assemble, paginate, and file affidavits of service, financial statements, and continuing records.
Prepare and organize briefs for hearings, motions, and settlement conferences.
Administrative & Practice Support
Manage lawyer calendars, calls, and client communications.
Assist with billing, docketing, and trust requests through Clio Manage.
Coordinate service and filing with process servers and couriers.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with Law Society of Ontario practice standards.
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience
as a Legal Assistant
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management systems.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage competing priorities.
