: This position requires strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the rules and filing procedures for Family Law in the Court of Kings Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Justice and the ability to perform child and spousal support calculations using ChildView or similar software. Experience with Surrogate Court applications including applications for Grants of Probate, and applications involving the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee is an asset. Fast accurate typing and editing, and the ability to work with Microsoft 365 is essential. Experience with CosmoLex practice management software, or similar software, including trust and business accounting, time tracking, and billing, or similar software, is an asset.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Drafting family law documents, including Agreements, Statements of Claim and Statements of Defence, Applications and Affidavits, and Orders, and ensuring the timely filing and service of any court documents.
Performing child and spousal support calculations. Drafting and filing surrogate court documents and communicating with the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee as needed.
Proofreading legal documents for accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
Uploading court documents for digital filing and liaising with Court clerks regarding Court filings.
Preparing client accounts on a monthly billing cycle, including follow-up with clients regarding accounts receivable.
Performing clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and maintaining office supplies.
Assisting with file management and file tasks, including organizing client files.
Communicating with clients, court clerks, and other parties.
Opening and closing client files and preparation of Retainer Agreements.
Providing administrative support as needed, including scheduling appointments and managing calendars.
Skills and Experience Required:
A minimum of 2 years experience within a Family Law practice.
Familiarity with Family Law practice, procedure, and filing is required.
Familiarity with Surrogate Court practices and procedures is required.
Familiarity with ChildView or similar child and spousal support software is required.
Familiarity with legal drafting processes is required.
Ability to write clearly and concisely for various legal documents.
Proofreading skills (ability to check typewritten material for grammatical, typographical, spelling, word usage and format errors)
Strong client-facing and communication skills.
Excellent organization and strong prioritization skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe, Excel and Word.
Experience with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and document management.
Experience with preparing client accounts on a monthly billing cycle, including follow-up with clients regarding accounts receivable.
