Learning Services Specialist


Founded in 1901, Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) offers a seamless academic journey from 18 months to 18 years. Located on a 50-acre campus on Hamilton's West Mountain, HSC provides a unique educational pathway for students through four school offerings: Junior, Montessori, Middle and Senior. HSC prepares students to live with purpose - to understand their world, inspire, lead, act, and make a difference in their own unique ways.

Position Overview:


Reporting to the Principal of Montessori, the Learning Services Specialist teacher works closely with the faculty and is a member of the broader Hillfield Strathallan College's Student Success team. The teacher is responsible for providing learning strategies leadership for students in the Montessori School. Please note that this position is covering a leave.

Responsibilities

:

Develop an understanding of the learning profiles and needs of the Montessori school students at Hillfield Strathallan CollegeAssist students to develop appropriate learning strategies to ensure their success; provide individual learning support to students, as required Evaluates the progress of students and discusses progress results with students, parents, classroom teachers and school principals as appropriate Support students and their families in understanding learning differences and needs of our learners Assist teachers in implementing differentiated instruction to meet specific learning needs; build capacity within the Montessori School with in-class Liaise with the Student Success Team to ensure consistency in policy practice and clarity in the support continuum across the College Member of the Montessori intervention team Oversee and supervise selection and purchase of learning materials and resource Assess effectiveness of learning services by developing and implementing surveys and conducting periodic progress reviews with program participants and implementing changes in response to results Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops, may assist in the development of course materials and curriculum content, provide tutoring assistance, and prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help Integrates new developments, research findings and best practices into ongoing programs and new initiatives Ability to create Individual Learning Plans and the ability to analyze psycho-educational assessments is required Capacity to address the needs of 21st century learner Other duties as assigned Oversee and run Acadience and MAP Growth assessments throughout the school year Collaborate with the Junior School LS Specialist and Middle School VP of Student Success to oversee the transition from M9/Grade 4 to Middle School process Support the development and implementation of the social-emotional learning program

Qualifications

Education and Designation:

University degree and additional qualifications in Special Education (Specialist preferred) Ontario teacher's Certificate or equivalent (J/I Divisions)

Experience:

A minimum of five years of experience teaching Special Education Experience writing and implementing IEPs and formal written student success plans Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families Vast amounts of empathy
