  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are looking for a dynamic, driven, agile, highly organized, detail-oriented, and strategic professional with extensive experience in procurement, contract management, and inventory management to join our team as the Leader, Technical Procurement Operations. In this role you will lead a team focused on operational and material management activities for spare parts supporting NOVA Chemicals\' manufacturing operations and projects. This role will focus on building and maintaining top quartile procurement performance and increasing value through disciplined execution, cost improvements and risk reduction initiatives across Canada and the United States.Reporting to the Director, Technical and Corporate Procurement, you will work with procurement specialists, business leaders, key stakeholders and the supply chain organization to develop and execute procurement operational support strategies.The preferred location for this position is at our Joffre Site near Red Deer, Alberta. Our locations in Calgary, Alberta; Sarnia, Ontario; and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania will also be considered.You Will Use Your Expertise To:
  • Provide direction, feedback, coaching and mentoring to the Procurement Operations Supervisors (Function Leads) and respective teams:
  • Service Center - responsible for day-to-day transactional materials purchases, SAP PO creation for materials and services ensuring that business requirements and expected service levels are met or exceeded.
  • Expediting team - responsible for following up on materials and equipment purchase orders placed by the Service Center to ensure timely delivery.
  • Warehouse operations team - responsible for day-to-day operations of spare parts warehouses across NOVA Chemicals locations and ensuring safe and reliable operations of the warehouses.
  • Spare parts inventory management team - responsible for planning and controlling spare parts inventory levels, ensuring optimum stock levels of spare parts and reordering points are maintained and timely identification and disposition of surplus materials.
  • Monitor and measure team\'s effectiveness against established performance metrics and drive improvements to reach top quartile levels.
  • Collaborate with the business teams to understand business requirements for materials supply and spare parts planning. Ensure procurement activities support business timelines and optimum planning process and ensure Procurement is an active contributor to NOVA Chemicals operations and maintenance reliability improvements and asset care program.
  • Act as a member of the Technical and Corporate Procurement leadership team with an expectation to lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team to enhance efficiency and effectiveness including contracting and procurement standards and practices.
  • Depending on the location, act as the main Procurement representative at the local business leadership teams and drive value to NOVA Chemicals through strong collaboration and help to enable the Procurement team\'s early involvement in key business strategies and decisions, driving strategic and fit for purpose approach to procurement spend management and operational processes.
What We Are Looking For:
  • University graduate (Business, Supply Chaim Management, or Engineering preferred) with 15+ years related experience and continued professional development with a minimum 10+ years of related procurement experience with a focus on indirect procurement and materials management.
  • Energy/Petrochemical industry experience would be highly beneficial combined with a keen business sense to anticipate future industry trends and impacts.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation in Canada or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) in the US (or equivalent international certification) would be considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Indirect Procurement activities within large organizations and in both Operational and Projects environments and in a cross-functional, geographically diverse organization.
  • Excellent understanding of contracting, procurement and materials management best practices and risk management.
  • Hands-on experience with procuring complex services, equipment and materials and use of strategies to mitigate quality, schedule, and cost risk.
  • Strategic thinking skills. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Analytical and data-driven mindset for decision-making and generating recommendations. Experience and ability to apply change management knowledge and expertise.
  • Strong leadership presence and demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders. Business acumen. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing business requirements while maintaining composure in high pressure situations.
  • Proven experience in team leadership and people management. Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills to coach and develop the team. Strong organizational skills and the ability to lead the teams to the next level of performance.
  • Ability to persuade and educate stakeholders on the various procurement activities and risks, mitigation approaches and service levels.
  • Proficiency in Purchase-to-pay tools, specifically SAP S4Hana - MM, PM & PS Modules, Ariba, Icertis.
