The successful candidate will have the following:Minimum of a High School diploma and a demonstrated ability in mathematics - preference given to those enrolled in or completed post-secondary studies in math/sciences/engineering/education or similarExcellent time management, organizational, written and verbal skillsKnowledge of Microsoft office programs, including outlook, word and excelPrevious tutoring experienceLeadership experienceStrong understanding of the Alberta High School math curriculumAbility to problem solve, work independently and be flexibleExperience working with youth and/or volunteersA high degree of professionalism including the ability to work comfortably and successfully with corporate professionals and volunteersA vehicle would be beneficialCurrent Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John\'s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.Evidence of a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector SearchThree professional references requiredWhat does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?Duties and Responsibilities include:Recruit and screen prospective student participantsDeliver twice weekly after school tutoring sessions from September to JuneSet-up, take-down and ensure clean program spacesProcure program snacks and supplies in consultation with the Supervisor on a weekly basisWork with students and volunteers in small groupsStay slightly ahead of the high school math curricula through program planning and training at the Renert CentreSupport and supervise volunteer tutors in their needs and learning and through giving feedback and coachingWork as part of a team to ensure the success of each studentReceive and respond to feedback from students and colleaguesPrepare and submit monthly reports, program statistics and program impact storiesComplete administrative tasks and update the student database weeklyMaintain constant and clear communication with volunteers and students through emails and phone callsMaintain a safe and healthy environmentWhat qualities do we look for in YMCA Calgary Staff and Volunteers?Our diverse team of staff and volunteers are committed to making a positive impact in the community.
