ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is on the lookout for a talented and experienced Lead Technical Artist (TA) who will collaborate with other team leads to identify and develop art production processes and technologies that meet artists\xe2\x80\x99 needs for creating high-quality art (primarily game assets, FX and animations) with limited resources. As a key member of our Game division, you will be acting as the main bridge between the art and engineering teams. You will establish workflows for all steps of the art pipeline and be the gatekeeper of said workflows.

You will facilitate seamless asset integration in Unreal Engine (UE5) and support with technical guidance. You will be assisting our riggers and animators with mocap tech, implementing characters in UE, and crafting state-of-the-art cutscenes. You will be training our modeling, surfacing, and lighting team in various Unreal Engine needs. And you\'ll be overseeing other Technical Artists. Our ideal candidate comes with a solid TA background in Console/PC games, are a great communicator, team player, and proactive problem solver providing recognized expertise. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other core team members to develop the overall vision and determine technical feasibility.
  • Identify and analyze risks (engine, data, features, etc.).
  • Assess existing tools and design custom ones to support art pipelines and workflows to sustain the project vision (eg procedural environment generation, custom materials, etc...)
  • Set up and maintain frameworks to allow creative freedom while hitting quality and performance requirements set up by the engineering team.
  • Meet with the Art Director, Level Design Lead, and Environment Art Lead on a regular basis to share information and updates, enforce standards, set benchmarks, give feedback, etc.
  • Resolve specific, complex, escalated issues and approve technical specifications.
  • Represent the art team in technical discussions and requirements meetings.
  • Write documentation, and tutorials/training videos and provide training to the Art, Design, and Engineering departments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Art, Design, Technical discipline or other relevant training
  • 6+ years of experience as a Technical Artist (and in a Lead role currently) in the video game industry.
  • Shipped at least one AAA console or PC title.
  • Advanced knowledge / hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 4.x and 5. x. and Visual Scripting (Blueprints).
  • Advanced knowledge of Blender, 3DSMax, Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, and Substance Designer. Knowledge of Houdini is a strong plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern 3D graphics techniques.
  • Experience writing and modifying shaders.
  • Experience with version control software such as Perforce or Git.
  • Working knowledge of scripting/programming using languages such as MaxScript, Python, C Sharp, etc
  • Advanced understanding of creative and game development processes.
  • High proficiency in technical problem-solving.
