Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and dependable
Lead Sheet Metal Technician
to join our team for ongoing
multifamily construction projects
. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of HVAC systems--especially the installation of
Fire Smoke Dampers (FSDs), Fire Dampers (FDs), Make-Up Air Units (MUA), Rooftop Units (RTUs),
and other major mechanical components. The ideal candidate will be confident in running jobs independently, from layout to final inspection.
While most work is based in
Calgary
,
some projects may require short-term travel to nearby locations outside the city
. Travel allowance or accommodations will be provided when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabricate and install ductwork and sheet metal systems, including proper placement of FSDs and FDs according to code and plans.
Accurately interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings for duct layout and damper locations.
Independently manage daily work activities, materials, and timelines.
Ensure all installations meet applicable building codes, NFPA standards, and SMACNA guidelines.
Lead and direct apprentices or small crews when needed.
Coordinate with general contractors, inspectors, and other trades to ensure smooth progress.
Perform quality checks, identify and resolve issues proactively.
Maintain job site safety, cleanliness, and organization.
Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of sheet metal installation experience in HVAC/mechanical systems.
Strong knowledge of FSD/FD damper installation, access requirements, and fire-rated wall/floor penetrations.
Ability to manage and execute a job independently with minimal supervision.
Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings and submittals.
Experience with multifamily or commercial construction projects preferred.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
Must have own tools and PPE.
Reliable transportation and valid driver's license required.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with SMACNA, IMC, and fire/life safety codes.
Ability to lead a small team or train apprentices.
Efficient in layout, takeoffs, and coordinating with other trades.
Experience working with foremen and superintendents to meet project deadlines.
