Reporting to the Senior Lead, Human Health, the Lead, Regional Water Monitoring, Surface Water is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing water monitoring programs to support environmental performance and compliance for regional programs and projects and mining operations. This will include supervising two employees, having the opportunity to participate in field activities and work collaboratively to support the water teams in the Elk Valley.

To be successful, we are looking for an individual with outstanding leadership, communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal direction and display initiative on tasks to advance them to completion. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a capacity for practical problem-solving. Strong multitasking, prioritization of competing deliverables and ability to see projects to completion are vital for success in this role.

This is an exciting opportunity to advance the objectives of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan and participate in the collection and interpretation of surface water monitoring data to understand environmental, legal, and compliance risks, and advise planning and management actions.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Coordinate, supervise and provide guidance to internal teams and external consultants to implement programs that advise management decisions and actions
  • Use appropriate project management controls such as schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, management of change, and document control to keep projects on schedule and within budget
  • Ensure contractor work is conducted safely and in accordance with the project scope including Health Safety and Environmental Compliance (HSEC) and Environmental Protection Work Plans
  • Lead the implementation of the regional surface water monitoring program in accordance with regulatory requirements aswell as develop and update standard operating procedures and guidance documents
  • Lead field, lab, and data management inspections and audits to confirm standard operating procedures and best practices are being followed in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Lead, develop and provide technical review for the submission of quarterly and annual water quality reports and permit applications to meet regulatory requirements and other commitments. as well as present information to a variety of audiences
  • Identify and support improvements to data management processes to ensure the surface water dataset is of the highest quality
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Science in environment, hydrology, hydrogeology, or other related field
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with an applicable professional organization, such as College of Applied Biologists or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, is an asset
  • Minimum seven years\' experience in water quality monitoring or water management
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant federal and provincial legislation, standards, and industry practices
  • Proficient in environmental data management, analysis, reporting, and environmental databases, such as EQuIS and GIS
  • Excellent project management experience, with a record of accomplishment that includes management and technical direction of multiple environmental projects with experience supervising staff, consultants, and contractors

Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate\'s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
