POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting for a Lead Refrigeration Mechanic - Commercial to work at our Edmonton, AB location. The Lead Refrigeration Mechanic \xe2\x80\x93 Commercial will be accountable for collaborating with management to ensure scheduling and execution of work meets the highest standards for our customers. As an extension of management in the field, the Lead Refrigeration Mechanic \xe2\x80\x93 Commercial will be responsible for ensuring company policies/procedures including the use of equipment and PPE are adhered to and mentoring employees under their supervision. Journeyperson rates are determined based on the Journeyperson\'s tenure. The range for Journeyperson is $53.89 - $65.17 (depending on supplemental rates/premiums).

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

ON THE TOOLS (Weighting 80%)

  • Install new, exchange, and overhaul existing compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, motors, engines, electric control systems, gas valves, safety controls, and other related equipment.
  • Perform start-ups, inspection, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of refrigeration and compression systems, and the correction of system problems.
  • Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment.
  • Read gauges and instruments, and adjust valves, controls, and pumps to control fluid levels, pressure, and temperature in the systems.

OVERSEE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS (Weighting 10%)

Health & Safety

  • Work safely, observing all safety rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for others affected by the work.
  • Complete on-site inspections (vehicle, FLHA, etc.)
  • Perform all work in compliance with the Startec Safety Manual
  • Ensure daily housekeeping is being completed and that the site is cleaned up at the end of the project and/or job.
  • Conducting periodic site visits to ensure production, safety, and company procedures are being followed.

Parts

  • Work with Parts personnel to order parts and supplies and maintain inventory records.
  • Ensure materials are received on site correctly and unused materials are returned to the vendor or parts department.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

  • Coordinate pressure tests and maintain all Quality Control documentation. Manager Quality control issues, and act as a sounding board for mechanics.
  • Perform all work by our Quality Control program wherever applicable.
  • Maintain weld mapping and welding inch logs.

Customer Management & Sales

  • Train customers in the operation and basic maintenance of their systems (secondary).
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Collaborate with Service Coordinator to ensure timely and satisfactory resolution of customer issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to customers regarding equipment maintenance and repairs.

ADMINISTRATION (Weighting 5%)

As-builts / Drawings

  • Update As-built drawings as required.
  • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and manufacturer instructions to independently construct, assemble, and install equipment.
  • Participating in project turnover meetings, approving drawings, and execution plans

Time/Manpower Tracking

  • Collaborate with the service coordinator for job assignments once the assigned task is complete. If a call comes indirectly from the customer, relay the information immediately to the coordinator for scheduling.
  • Complete all paperwork and reports as required by the customer and Startec on a timely and consistent basis to help ensure invoicing is completed in a timely fashion.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT (Weighting 5%)

  • Document performance evaluations and constructive feedback of team members, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement to report to management.
  • Led and managed a team of refrigeration mechanics, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to optimize their productivity and technical skills.
  • Monitor the team\'s performance, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and evaluate individual and team productivity and quality of work.
  • Ensure that all maintenance and repair work performed by the team adheres to industry standards, safety guidelines, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the refrigeration mechanics, assisting with complex repairs and troubleshooting issues as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Indentured Journeyman level trade certification in an applicable trade.
  • 5 years or greater field experience working as a Journeyperson.
  • Valid class 5 driver\'s license with a clean driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
  • Proven experience as a refrigeration mechanic, with demonstrated expertise in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration components, controls, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in refrigeration and HVAC
