Responsibilities:
  • As a lead Operator, you will be responsible for the management of the people and operations of your location
  • Working with the senior management team to ensure the successful planting, production, harvest, storage and delivery of the crops for your location
  • Training & Development
  • Supply and support to in-field operators for all equipment
  • Supervise operators in the completion of in-field equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Diagnose, repair & maintain in-field farm equipment, machinery, and trucks
  • Ensure proactive maintenance of all equipment is completed at the regular service intervals
  • Obtain and approve quotes for part purchasing in partnership with the Location Manager
  • Working within the preapproved budget purchase parts for repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain and procure shop supplies
  • Supervise In-field Operator performance
  • Ensure staff accurately record farm activity & maintenance records
  • Ensure cleanliness of all equipment
  • Ensure equipment efficiency benchmarks are met for in-field operations
  • Date Use/Collection
  • Ensure collection of accurate and timely data through equipment monitors as well as farm software
  • Supervise staff to GPS use, as applied data collection, task records, calibrations and controlled traffic
  • Regular communication with the Location Manager and Agronomy Manager
  • In-Field Operations - logistics support, equipment and staffing required
  • Crop plan - what products, rates, timing
  • Repairs and Maintenance
  • Human Resources
  • Assign tasks to in-field equipment operators
  • Hold staff accountable for their behaviour, equipment upkeep, and performance to tasks assigned
  • Partner with location manager and operations manager in developing and meeting labour budget
  • Operate farm equipment
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of shop tools and equipment
  • Haul grain, seed, fertilizer, & farm chemicals
  • Maintain farm fields, yards, buildings
  • In partnership with the Location Manager supervise the organizational occupational health and safety program
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
Qualifications:
  • Class 5 Drivers License - Class 1A strongly preferred
  • Willing to work long hours during the growing season, it is not uncommon to work 14-16-hour days for 7 days a week during seeding and harvest
  • Demonstrate a general knowledge of agronomic management practices, a willingness to learn, and the ability to use the technology associated with modern equipment and record keeping
  • Knowledge of mechanical operation of agricultural equipment, including routine maintenance and repair
  • Ability to work as a team, aid and train others, depending on the task at hand
  • Effective communication with colleagues and with management, including the ability to develop a productive and cooperative relationship with others
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted, with heavier lifts less often and with assistance
